Isaac was born the first born child of the noble family Comnenus, a rich family who rules over the city of Tarnovo. His father died when he was young, and Isaac's mother took the task of overseeing the city till Isaac came of age. Tarnovo is a port city tucked in the mountains that was far from the Kingdom of Carneth, despite the centuries old war it never affected the people of the city as it did others, due to the fact it was far away from the conflict. Isaac too never saw much of war, he was not raised in the traditional manner of most feudal lords. Tradition in the Comnenus family was that he be raise a man of state. And learn to run a city, and manage lands and money effectively.
Isaac learned that power did not come from the sword, but the flip of a coin. When he came of age at 16 the young lord inherited his father's lands and became the Lord of Tarnovo. He was not well like by some of his other noble peers, he was look down upon or with discontent for the fact that he wielded money as well as a fine fencer carried his sword. But in the end they learned to respect him, for the war with Carneth was and old one, and Isaac knew how to finance the kingdom's forces properly. He made loans, bought more land, and commissioned forces for the kingdom to fight. As far as he is concerned the war can drag on forever, so long as he continues to make a profit from it.
