Berwyck knelt down. He gently brushed the soft soil where a recently indented mark lay. The beast he and Connor where hunting was near. The beast itself was unknown to both men. Neither of them had seen one before, nor had they heard of it in any tale.
"Is it here?" The squire asked as he looked over his master's shoulder.
"Quiet," the Knight said in a hushed tone as he lifted a hand. He heard a female voice a way off from where they stood. He quickly realized that it was a scream out of fear. He immediately stood and drew his sword, moving quickly. He eventually caught sight of the woman, his eyes quickly turning to the beast. Once he was close enough, he lifted his blade and lunged at the creature.

Ellen had been on a leisure stroll with her horse when they heard a sound. To her it sounded.. evil.. and the sound made her horse just start running. Not knowing how far into the forest they were she tried to pull on the reins to tell to horse to stop. Thyme wasn't listening though, her horse was terrified.
Something jumped out in front of them which made Thyme to rear back causing Ellen to fall off. She screamed as she fell then she yelled after her horse as she ran back the way they came. She looked up at the beast and screamed in fear as she saw the beast, it had the body of a rat but the head of a wolf and it was huge. She used her hands and feet to move back only to be blocked by a tree.
She was too focused on the creature to notice the knight coming up and killing it. When it cried out of pain and rage she noticed the man. The beast turned toward the man.

Within a few minutes of battle, it was over. The beast's back was sprawled against the ground, exposing the killing wound. He wiped off the creature's blood from the blade. He put it into his sheath and looked to the woman.
"Don't worry," he spoke to her, "it is dead."
Berwyck ignored Connor's form as it came out from the trees. He was much too preoccupied with determining whether or not he acquired a wound. Once he was satisfied that he wasn't wounded, he helped up the lady.
"What is that thing?" Connor asked as he rounded the beast. The knight turned to his squire who was obviously oblivious to the fact that he had saved another's life.
Berwyck shook his head. "I don't know," he replied. "I have never saw one of its like before. I haven't even heard of it in the tales of wild beasts my mother had once relayed to me." It was a mystery indeed but they would have to wait until they answered this mystery. Shaking it from his mind, he turned back to the woman he had saved.

Ellen's eyes were as wide as saucers as she watched the battle between man and beast. She didn't know how she had gotten into the spat she was in. After the beast was dead she allowed the man to help her up.
She stared at the beast then looked up and almost jumped behind the man when another came round. Was she saved just to be attacked by these men?
Ellen was very wary at the moment, though she had just been saved from the beast. She looked up at the man before her, she gained her composure but as she spoke her voice shook, "who do I thank for my rescue?"

"A 'thank you' is not needed," Berwyck replied. "It is my duty as a knight to give protection when it is needed most." He paused as he looked from Connor to her. "Are you hurt?"
He didn't understand why she was riding alone. It was dangerous for women to be in the woods without a guide. Many bandits roamed free and none of them would take kindness to a passing female. Not only that, but there was also the threat of wild animals, as they had just seen.
He felt like pointing out her great mistake and he did so. "You shouldn't be riding out on your own."

Ellen was still wary though the man was a knight. When she got a good look at his face she smiled. "I have to thank you in some way." She said as she reached up and gently stoked his cheek with the back of her hand. She didn't even acknowledge the other man.
"What might your name be, kind sir?" She was over being wary, she didn't even notice that the knight was wearing Carneth colors. She couldn't help but be the way she was, even if she was a lord's daughter. She slowly licked her lips as she looked up at him. "I am Ellen Fowler."
